PolarPatch captures the sounds of the Norwegian Arctic at 68°N – waves, wind, silence, and everything in between.
What started as a way to justify time spent on field recording during a period of long-term sick leave has grown into something more. Armed with a Tascam X8 and a collection of specialised microphones – contact mics, ultrasonic and hydrophones.

Each recording is minimally processed to preserve the raw character of these remote places. Minimal processing. Maximum presence.

“Patch” refers to capturing small fragments of sound – moments of place and time from the Arctic coastline. In the world of audio, a patch is also the signal path from microphone to recorder. PolarPatch is both: fragments of the polar north, and the connection between the Arctic and the listener
